Hi Rhys - (apologies for writing in Saesneg) nice pic; I would like to copy it across to commons so it can be used on other language pages, but need to know what its license status is; it would also be useful to know the location of the photo - diolch yn fawr, 82.39.130.135 20:10, 27 Mawrth 2006 (UTC) (en:User:MPF)[ateb]

It's a photo I took of some date palms on a beach in Djerba. Feel free to use it.
Since you collect pine cones, did you know that where I live (near Nice) there is a steam train which runs on pine cones gathered from the sides of the tracks (instead of coal). I have written an article about it in Welsh, see Chemins de fer de Provence. There are many Aleppo pines in this part of the world so I wrote a stub Pinwydden Halab but I haven't got round to finishing it yet. Rhys 15:31, 28 Mawrth 2006 (UTC)[ateb]

Diolch! Could you add a {GFDL} or other copyright tag to it, so I know which one to add at commons, please. The train is new to me; sounds risky with the danger of sparks - 82.39.130.135 23:04, 28 Mawrth 2006 (UTC)[ateb]

Geraint Bowen[golygu cod]

Sylwi dy fod wedi dileu bod Geraint Bowen wedi bod yn athro yn Aberaeron. Wyt ti'n sicr na fu Geraint Bowen yn athro Cymraeg yn Ysgol Uwchradd Aberaeron. Roedd ei ferch yn y coleg yr un pryd a fi a dyna'r cof sydd 'da fi. Dyfrig

Roedd Geraint Bowen yn athro mewn un ysgol yn unig, sef Ysgol Ramadeg y Bechgyn Rhiwabon (hynny yw; heblaw sgŵl-prac yn Nhonyrefail, Rhondda). Roedd e'n ddisgybl yn Ysgol y Sir Aberaeron cyn mynd i'r brifysgol. Rhys 19:18, 4 Ebrill 2006 (UTC)[ateb]

Newydd ddarllen dy sylwadau; eithriadol o drist yw clywed am farwolaeth un o gewir Cymru'r 20ed ganrif: Geraint Bowen. Dw i'n cofio adeg pan roedd e'n ei dweud hi'n hallt iawn - yn sefyll dros y pethau gwar a Chymreig fel nad oedd neb arall yn medru ei wneud - ar wahan efallai i Hywel Teifi Edwards. Fe roddodd drefn ar yr Orsedd a'r steddfod fel ei gilydd. Roedd hefyd yn fardd aruthrol. Dw i wastad yn meddwl amdano, fel ei ffugenw pan enillodd am awdl i'r Amaethwr fel "y marchog gwyllt": yn paffio'n barhaus dros y Gymraeg heb flweyn ar ei dafod, hyd yn oed fel Arolygydd ei Mawrhydi roedd e'n sefyll yn gadarn. Colled enfawr i Gymru. Trist iawn. Llywelyn2000 15:10, 16 Gorffennaf 2011 (UTC)[ateb]

Ooh la la[golygu cod]

Sorry Rhys I had to get rid of your bit about bad French drivers because the powers that be told me that we've got to be serious. Mh96 07:36, 26 Hydref 2006 (UTC)[ateb]

It wasn't really a joke but never mind! However, I'm sure it wasn't really necessary to delete it since the French are well aware that they have a problem so they've invented the word "chauffard". Chauffards are quite common in France so most people have learned to drive very defensively in order to avoid them. There's no single equivalent word in English. It's often translated as "road hog" or "hit and run driver". There's no real Welsh equivalent either. I've simply used "gyrrwr anystyriol" or "gyrrwr diofal" but we would probably say "gyrrwr ddiawledig". Rhys 11:04, 29 Hydref 2006 (UTC)[ateb]

Just a question[golygu cod]

I'm sorry I don't speak Welsh but I'm Argentinian and the truth is that I don't even speak English very well. We're having a problem at Spanish Wikipedia with the etymology of the word "Dorset". The article says that it comes from two Welsh words: Dwrn, which means "fist", and gwarae, that means "play". We have no references for that information and naturally there're no many Welsh speakers at Spanish Wikipedia, that's why I ask you if "fist" and "play" are actually the real meanings of the words Dwrn and gwarae. As I don't have an account in Welsh Wikipedia, I'd be really pleased if you answered my question here below. Thank you very much. Please, write in English! :) --201.252.199.248 01:50, 12 Ebrill 2008 (UTC)[ateb]

Hi, According to the Guinness Book of Answers, I quote
"dwellers (saete) of the place of fist-play (Dorn-gweir)"
It isn't Welsh. Maybe it's Cornish. I can confirm however, that fist is dwrn in Welsh, and play is chwarae. Hope this helps. Rhys 20:14, 14 Ebrill 2008 (UTC)[ateb]
