Cross-wiki spam[golygu cod]
I'm curious why you placed requests for speedy deletion notices on Niños asesinos and El Triunfo De Vivir on the grounds that they were "cross-wiki spam". These are quite obviously genuine articles for genuine movies. Craigysgafn (sgwrs) 17:12, 18 Gorffennaf 2023 (UTC)
- @Craigysgafn Thanks for following up. These articles give little information about the movies that would establish notability. They are padded out with irrelevant information about other movies and boilerplate bios for the director. Unless I'm missing something, there is no obvious association with the Welsh language. This is a cross-wiki issue because it is related to this bulk deletion request at Wikidata. These CYWIKI articles (along with México Bravo, which I somehow failed to include) are acting as a hook to anchor a mass of otherwise non-notable entities, so I wanted to give the local community an opportunity to assess it from their end. - @Llywelyn2000: You're quite right. These movies have no direct connection to the Welsh language, but this is a Wici *in* the Welsh language and not just *about* the Welsh language. The articles were created by a Welsh speaker with an interest in world cinema and have a legitimate place here. They all have entries on IMDb with posters, cast lists, the whole nine yards, and I cannot for the life of me see why anyone should think they are non-notable or object to their presence as Wicidata items. - I agree that it is perfectly valid for the Welsh language Wikipedia to have articles about entities and concepts unrelated to Wales or the Welsh language. Nevertheless, when I see Wikidata items that have only a single sitelink for a smaller project that has no obvious relationship, and they don't have a sitelink for the obvious project that is most like to have knowledge of and interest in the topic (in this case, the Spanish language Wikipedia), I take this as evidence that it may be a spammer seeking to promote something non-notable by shopping out crude machine translations.
