Genws o ffyngau cennog yn y teulu Trypetheliaceae yw Trypetheliwm.^[1] Mae'r genws eang yn cynnwys tua 50 o rywogaethau sydd i'w cael yn bennaf mewn ardaloedd trofannol. Cafodd Trypetheliwm ei amgylchynu gan y botanegydd Almaeneg Kurt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel ym 1804.
