English: Manet made this painting during a trip to Venice in 1875. The work is different in mood from his North Atlantic seascapes. Manet had spent time painting alongside Claude Monet that summer and he employed brighter colors and broken brushstrokes to create the visual splendor of Venetian canals.
This painting is part of the collections of the Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, Vermont.
