Hi! Sorry for the delay, I do not come here very often... I think the "babel" templates are OK, but you put a link to the portuguese language in English, not in Cymraeg. Thanks, --[[Defnyddiwr:Mschlindwein|Mschlindwein]] 00:53, 3 Mehefin 2006 (UTC)

My Welsh is not really up to any complicated discussion, so if anyone wants to talk to me here, please put your comments in both languages. Thanks. Deb 21:19 29 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Helo Deb! Croeso i'r Wicipedia Cymraeg -- peidiwch a phoeni os ydych chi ddim yn ysgrifennu Gymraeg perffaith, mae'r mwyafrif ohonom ni yn yr un cwch! Mae'n braf i gweld chi yma.
Hello Deb! Welcome to the Welsh Wikipedia -- don't worry if you don't write perfect Welsh, most of us are in the same boat! It's nice to see you over here. I've been playing around with the Welsh [localisation file] -- do you feel able to take a look to see if what I've done so far makes sense (rather a lot of it has come out of a few dictionaries, as we seem to be a bit lacking in technical terminology though I have found a list I've put up at Termau cyfrifiadurol Cymraeg!). -- Arwel 22:00 29 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Hi Deb! Welcome back, I hadn't noticed you around here for a while and was hoping you were OK. -- Arwel 01:11, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! :)

Hi Deb, you can do all the biographies you want now -- I've finally put up an entry for every day of the year (and it seems got a touch of RSI:) ). -- Arwel 19:01, 10 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Hi Deb, thanks for keeping cy.wikipedia growing! I've been offline for the last week while I was in hospital after breaking my leg falling down a few stairs at home :-( Arwel 09:58, 26 Jan 2004 (PST) (mostly housebound for the next six weeks...)

Hi Deb.

I've just acquired "Bureaucrat" status, which means I can make new sysops on this Wikipedia. As you're the most active other user, would you like to be a sysop? The only benefit is the ability to delete pages and edit MediaWiki: pages so you could correct my mistakes in translating the user interface...! -- Arwel 14:19, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Welcome to sysophood! You should now be able to see a few more options on the left hand side. Like quite a few minor language Wikipedias we've never protected "Hafan", though I suppose as we get more users we ought to hit "Amddiffynwch tudalen hon" against it sometime. -- Arwel 00:18, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi Deb, when I was adding someting to the Esperanto-Wikipedia about "Kimra lingvo" (Cymraeg), I found a request to translate the english page about Cymraeg into Esperanto. I will do so, even english is not my mothertongue, but german. We esperantists try our best to help endangered and minority languages. Especially we are fighting against any English-only tendencies and for language equality. Would you please translate something about Esperanto into Cymraeg. Unfortunately our Esperanto-language is often ridiculed or even defamed by english-only speakers and thus the english page is not very positive in regard to Esperanto. The french side is a bit more positive. The german version is more positive and e.g. the dutch version is quite positive. Would you or one of your fellow Cymraeg-Wikipedists please create a page about Esperanto in Cymraeg? thanks in advance! Multkolorbirdo (Colourfull-Bird) 62.224.83.214 16:59, 15 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi Deb,

A short-notice warning if you're currently online, or probably an after-the-event explanation of what's gone on if you're not! :) I've asked the developers to put http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/LanguageCy.php online -- this should finish the Cymricisation (dates, etc.). The most prominent change will be to the namespaces, so Wikipedia: should become Wicipedia:, User: becomes Defnyddwr:, User_talk: becomes Sgwrs_defnyddwr: and so on. I'm hoping that these changes will be automatic, but I can envisage that there may be outstanding links which may be broken and have to fixed manually :( ! Touch wood it all goes well.... Arwel 20:38, 16 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi Deb,

Draig Goch20 here, just saying thanks for the Welcome. I am a learner myself (Been learning Welsh since 1996). I construct my Welsh sentences to the best of my ability in Microsoft Word. When I read over it then and feel that my sentence is as good as I can make it, I then paste it into Wikipedia Cymraeg for public view. I am new to the Wikipedia atmosphere and ask if people give me time to learn to use it's functions. I also thank people for correcting some of my Articles.

Hope to meet nice people on Wikipedia too, A Welsh Wikipedia is a very good idea.

It's the bad penny again!

I just saw you've created a link to 'Pedr Ilyich Tchaikovsky', and was wondering if we ought to be translating P.I.'s first name liked that, since this articles' spelling is unique in all of Google! There are 60 entries for 'Petr Ilyich' and just under 20,000 for 'Pyotr Ilyich'. I don't know if anyone would think of looking under Pedr, but if we did that, shouldn't his name be spelt something like 'Pedr Ilïts Tsaicofsgi'? I'm not too keen on developing a whole new transliteration scheme for Russian -- I was on holiday in Vienna during the 1990 Russian coup and it was quite odd reading newspapers featuring people like Boris Jelzin and Michail Gorbatschow! (I suppose in Welsh they'd be spelt Boris Ieltsin and Mihangel Gorbatsof!) -- Arwel 21:03, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Glad you've been thinking about naming! I think most people would probably look under 'Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky', but some might look under 'Pedr Ilyich Tchaikovsky', so I'd suggest having the article under "Pyotr" with a redirect from "Pedr". -- Arwel 00:04, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

lifeboat

= bad achub [1]. (The first story on the BBC news in Welsh last night was about lifeboats, funnily enough-- the closure of the station at Llandudno-- but my Welsh still isn't good enough to be able to pick vocab out of running spoken text and I couldn't find a written Welsh version of that story.) Banning vandals

Hi Deb. That user's been doing anonymous edits to the sandbox, putting "Welsh people - sheepshaggers" twice. I don't see that we have to put up with that sort of thing, so I banned him for a week... unfortunately it looks like he's a dial-up user who gets a different IP address every time he logs in, so we'll just have to play "whack-a-mole" and ban him every time he shows up! If it was a matter of a regular user playing silly buggers then we ought to discuss things before banning him, but in the case of anons doing this then I regard it as vandalism which can be fixed without warning. Regards, Arwel 21:02, 14 Ebr 2004 (UTC)

Deaths

I see you've moved Islwyn Ffowc Elis from Marwolaethau ar. I had an email from Dyfrig yesterday asking how to fix his mistake, so I wrote him an email explaining what to do, on the principle that if you give a man a fish he'll have a good meal, but teach him how to fish and he'll eat for life, rather than fix it myself. Obviously he hadn't got round to it today! :) Arwel 21:09, 14 Ebr 2004 (UTC)

Blocking vandals

Hi Deb. Please take a look at my note on Sgwrs Defnyddiwr:Marnanel for my suggestions on how to handle our sheepy friend while I'm away for a few days! All the best, Arwel 00:28, 20 Ebr 2004 (UTC)

Editing Erthyglau Newydd

It took a little searching, but you need to edit Template:Erthyglau_newydd -- I think that was one of Marnanel's changes! :) -- Arwel 23:56, 12 Meh 2004 (UTC)

That's right. I thought it made sense that anyone could add articles to Erthyglau_newydd since anyone can create them. There didn't seem to be the same risk of vandalism as the one which necessitated the protection of Hafan, since casual vandals would need to be able to find the page first. Marnanel 04:07, 13 Meh 2004 (UTC)

Year articles

If you'd rather the year articles were structured a different way, please don't fix it by hand! It would be very easy just to modify the script and run it again. The decade links should run for five decades either side, not for the whole length of the current century, then? Marnanel 20:12, 15 Aws 2004 (UTC)

Just saw your comment here. The system we've used so far is "five decades on either side of the current decade. and five years on either side of the current year". I have to say I was impressed when I logged on today and saw 2500+ articles! :) -- Arwel 22:15, 15 Aws 2004 (UTC)
It'll certainly make my life easier in future. Deb 20:57, 16 Aws 2004 (UTC)

French Kings

Hi Deb! Thanks for all the French kings - should'nt it be "o Frainc" instead of "o Ffrainc"? --Okapi 23:37, 31 Aws 2004 (UTC)

Should it? I didn't think "ff" was affected by mutation. I'll have to pass the question on to someone who knows. Deb 17:33, 2 Med 2004 (UTC)
Oh, I'm sorry... I've had another look at my grammar book, looks as if you are right... I seem to have got my ffs and lls mixed up. I should have checked first... --Okapi 23:08, 2 Med 2004 (UTC)

Thanks

I've forgotten to thank you for the welcome, Debora.

Could you say what is the exact translation, in cy:, for 'Main article' ('Article principal') ?

Something as ... Erthygl ... ???

Ma'ame Michu 23:24, 24 Med 2004 (UTC)

Thank you Deb

Thanks for your welcome (as I assume Croeso am y wicipedia cymraeg is translated as Welcome to the Welsh wikipedia)! It took me some time to figure it out ;-) Kind regards, MarcoVD 19:30, 9 Rhag 2004 (UTC)

Waldo

Hi Deb. The deleted "Waldo Williams" article had 3 "l"s in it (well, 4 if you count the one in "Waldo"!), and there was a request from the creator to delete it. It's been rewritten with the requisite number of l's now. I suppose you could say it was an l of a mess.... :) -- Arwel 13:13, 14 Rhag 2004 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hi Deb. Thanks for trying to fix some of the damage. Careful though - some of the gibberish renamed articles linking to the autofellatio image do in fact have renamed proper articles as older versions - I've got a printout of all the damage done, so I'm trying to move them back and revert them! -- Arwel 17:40, 30 Maw 2005 (UTC)

I think it was a random hit -- apparently the Klingon wikipedia suffered last night too. -- Arwel 17:45, 30 Maw 2005 (UTC)
That's an idea! :) I'm not sure whether or not #redirect is hard-coded into the software and #ail-cyfeirio is an alternative. I'll have to make enquiries... -- Arwel 18:03, 30 Maw 2005 (UTC)
I'm afraid it's not an idea, after all! :( - the vandal came back last night and tried to redirect my talk page - he's already found out what the Welsh for "redirect" is, unfortunately. -- Arwel 15:40, 31 Maw 2005 (UTC)
I had been away a couple of days and just dropped in to witness the effects of last night's havoc - if I can do anything to help the cleanup just let me know! --Okapi 12:14, 31 Maw 2005 (UTC)

Yes, having to check the log whether someone's already blocked is a pain. A shorter block will override a longer one (in fact I've just noticed that the 24 hour block you put on user SPUI yesterday has expired and overridden the indefinite one I'd given earlier), so I'll just temporarily unblock and reblock him.... -- Arwel 21:21, 31 Maw 2005 (UTC)

Oh, no - he used two incarnations, the first night he was Defnyddiwr:OldakQuill and Defnyddiwr:SPUI, and the second night he was Defnyddiwr:Oldak Quill. Spot the difference! -- Arwel 21:34, 31 Maw 2005 (UTC)

Rhestr pabau

Beat ya to it! Deb 17:36, 19 Ebr 2005 (UTC)

Only just! It's the first time I've ever had an edit conflict on cy.wikipedia - quite interesting to see what it looks like! :) -- Arwel 21:42, 19 Ebr 2005 (UTC)

Nodyn:User cy-0

Grazie! --Pare (☮&♥) 22:34, 25 Gorffennaf 2005 (UTC)[ateb]

In case you're in doubt, it means "this user does not understand (Welsh) or understands it with difficulty." My first attempt is "Mae'r defnyddiwr hwn dim yn deall Gymraeg, neu yn deall gyda afrwyddineb." I'm sure that's full of errors - can you help? Deb 18:20, 26 Gorffennaf 2005 (UTC)[ateb]
well, I'd say "ddim yn deall...", and I'd use anhawster rather than afrwyddineb, but that's just my dialect! Otherwise it sounds OK. -- Arwel 18:44, 26 Gorffennaf 2005 (UTC)[ateb]

Losing faith in editing skills

I feel now that I am losing faith in my editing skills on this wikipedia. I have received complaints that my articles are alway's in need of "Language Cleanup" which proves that I am not as good as the other users on here. I will leave the use of Welsh to the pro's and I shall hang around in the background.

Draig goch20 19:10, 31 Gorffennaf 2005 (UTC)[ateb]

Made me feel a little better, diolch. I'm young and I guess being a youngster I take to things. I love Welsh, I wish Welsh was used more often everywhere in Wales. My problem was that for years I did not feel confident that my Welsh was any good to use in public. This wikipedia made me feel a lot better until now. Nid yw'r Gymraeg fi "Sgiliau da", mae fy Gymraeg fi yw geiriau ydw i ddysgu oddiwrth pobol arall ar y we. Diolch, rydw i wedi ymadael fy penderfyniad i chi yfory.

User using German swear words

The following user "80.229.160.150" left "scheiss! nicht langsam sondern schnell" which means "shit! not slowly but fast". This use of language no matter what language it is in, it is unacceptable.

Draig goch20 20:31, 1 Awst 2005 (UTC)[ateb]

In the article on the German language, I had meant to say "yn gyflym" but had written "yn araf" instead by mistake. Annoyed with myself for my stupidity, I came out with an expletive in the edit summary when I corrected it. Sorry, I shouldn't have done, and apologies for any offence.
The edit summary really meant:
Oh darn. I didn't mean to say "yn araf" but "yn gyflym".
But quoted out of context, it looks like I meant to say:
Defecate! And don't do it slowly, do it fast!

Cyflwyno fy hunan

Hi!

I'm Rhys. I live near Nice, France but I was born in Wrexham and our family moved to Cardiff when I was young. I have also lived in Bala and Machynlleth. I speak fluent Welsh and French, not to mention English of course. I also speak quite good Italian and a little Arabic too. I could see that the Welsh pages of Wikipedia were rather sparse and decided to contribute, or at least try to move them along a little. One little thing;- I'd like to see "bocs swnd" replaced with "bocs tywod" or better still "blwch tywod". I know that the word "swnd" is used in certain regions but in Standard Welsh the word for "sand" is "tywod".

Shwmai?

Rhys ydw i. Dwi'n byw ger Nice, Ffrainc ond ges i fy ngenu yn Wrecsam ac fe symudodd fy nheulu i Gaerdydd pan roeddwn ni'n ifanc. Dw'i wedi bod yn buw yn y Bala a Machynlleth hafyd. Dwi'n siarad Cymraeg a Ffrangeg yn rhugl, heb son am Saesneg wrth gwrs. Dwi'n medru Eidaleg eitha da hefyd ac ychydig Arabeg. Roeddwn ni'n gweld tudalennau Wicipedia Cymraeg braidd yn dlawd a phenderfynais i gyfrannu, wel o leia', ceisio symud nhw ymlaen ychydig. Un peth bach;- Buaswn ni'n hoffi gweld y geiriau "bocs tywod" yn hytrach na " bocs swnd" neu gwell byth "blwch tywod". Dwi'n gwybod bod nhw'n defnyddio'r gair "swnd" yn rhai ardaloedd ond y gair Cymraeg safonol ydy "tywod".

Rhys.
