BBC's on-hover translation tool

Has anyone investigated getting the BBC's new word-by-word translation tool enabled on Wicipedia? I think it'd be really great for learners - I'm trying to get the Clwb Malu Cachu list ppl to come to Wicipedia, and having this sort of tool working here would be a boon to learners everywhere (including me!). Jimmy Wales is pretty interested in the idea, but was just wondering if anyone here has already discussed it.

Problem on Hafan...

After changing two links on Hafan, there suddenly was a Taflen cynnwys. I haven't got a clue where it suddenly sprang up from - and what is worse I haven't got a clue how to get rid of it again... Ehm.... HELP!!! --Okapi 13:57, 30 Tach 2004 (UTC)

It looks alright now. Perhaps the server threw a wobbly -- I was just reloading Hafan now, and the bullet points were showing some sort of elongated character until the whole page had loaded. The server's been dreadfully slow today on all the Wikipedia's I'm on, so I guess it's time for the Foundation to spend some more money again! If it happens again, try putting __DIMTAFLENCYNNWYS__ near the top of the page. -- Arwel 19:56, 30 Tach 2004 (UTC)

I saw a connection to Prif tudalen instead of Hafan on the page I was editing. But there seems to be no such page. I wondered if someone was tampering -- has "Hafan" ever been called "Prif tudalen" in the past? Deb 20:08, 30 Tach 2004 (UTC)

I don't think so. It was "Main Page" when the software was first set up in July last year, but it got moved to Hafan quite quickly. What page were you editing? -- Arwel 23:32, 30 Tach 2004 (UTC)

I think it happened when I was creating a new article - possibly Molly Weir - but when I returned to the page it was back to normal. (I didn't imagine it, honest I didn't...) Deb 18:00, 1 Rhag 2004 (UTC)

I'll believe you (thousands wouldn't! :) ). I've been spoiled by Wikipedia, I was correcting Molly Weir's birth year from 1920 to 1910 on the Internet Movie Database, and was horrified to see that it'll take 7-21 days for the correction to come through.... -- Arwel 19:44, 1 Rhag 2004 (UTC)

Y gwyddoniadur rhad????

I just noticed that it now says y gwyddoniadur rhad above the articles, while it still is y gwyddoniadur rhydd below the logo. I wonder if rhad has the same negative connotations about quality as cheap does in English, if it does I would opt for a change! --Okapi 04:55, 29 Rhag 2004 (UTC)

International Writing Contest

Hello everybody,

In Berlin at Dezember 2004 there was the critique that there is not enough connection in the work of all the different Wikipedias in their different languages. I think, that an internationally linked writing contest should be one possible chance to cooperate and work together. At March 1st there will be the start of the second writing contest in the german Wikipedia so I thought, we can start it as an international project. There had bee contests in the Wikipedia of the Netherlands nl:Wikipedia:Schrijfwedstrijd, the german Wikipedia de:Wikipedia:Schreibwettbewerb and the english one and as far as I could see it, it worked really good.

The ugly little diwedd-bug...

There is an article called Canol Oesoedd diweddar yng Nghymru which has been linked to Canol Oesoedd - but unfortunately the link does not seem to work due to the above bug. What to do??? --Okapi 13:53, 1 Chwe 2005 (UTC)

The link from Canol Oesoedd as "Canol Oesoedd <nowiki>diweddar yng Nghymru</nowiki>" does seem to work - I've just created the article with "test" in it if you want to edit it. Unfortunately even if we had a fix for the bug (I think it's in the LanguageCy.php file), I have my doubts we'd get any action out of the developers for quite a long time -- I've just seen a shirty comment from one of them on one of the mailing lists to the people who want an Ossetian Wikipedia about lack of time and resources (not helped by developer Tim Starling taking a (temporary, I hope) break from Wikipedia because it was impinging too much on his real life). -- Arwel 20:56, 2 Chwe 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm, yes and no... The original article did not link, so I copied the contents and pasted them to your new link with the proper explanation on Sgwrs. At least the article is not orphaned any longer, but we will have to remember the exact string when linking it from any other page.... Argh... And, oh, so we are being discriminated against just because we are tiny, are we? Hmpf. Wikimedia Collaboration

A new attempt to get the Wikimedia community to collaborate on multi-lingual tasks is the Wikimedia Collaboration of the Week. Please see the page on meta for details.
