English: Goleudy Trwyn Du Lighthouse Although officially the Trwyn Du (black nose) lighthouse, it is referred to locally as 'Golau Penmon'(Penmon light). The lighthouse guards the narrow channel to the Menai Strait between the dangerous rocks of Trwyn Du and Carreg Edwen (Perch Rock) on the Ynys Seiriol (Puffin Island) side. The channel here is about 16 fathoms deep. The lighthouse was built following the loss of 150 lives when the "Rothsay Castle" sank in 1831. It was automated in 1922 and has been powered by solar panels since the 1990s. It has a particularly funereal sounding fog bell.
